For the first time, SQA is exhibiting at The Skills Hub @ London Build 2017, where our staff will be on hand to provide information on our wide range of construction qualifications.

SQA is an international Awarding Body with over 100 years’ experience developing and certificating qualifications.

We offer a comprehensive range of qualifications with Construction being one of our key sectors. SQA work with a variety of partners including employers, training providers, and colleges to deliver our wide variety of construction courses.

In response to the removal of the Construction Related Occupation (CRO) card, SQA is designing 21 new qualifications to meet the evolving requirements of the industry, which will give individuals the skills and knowledge needed to work safely, and productively on a construction site.

Launching soon, the new National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) sit at Level 2 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). They include nine Construction Craft qualifications, and the Removal of Hazardous Waste: Licensed Asbestos qualification.

The NVQs are undertaken in the workplace, with aspects of the qualification assessed on-site. This means that the 230,000 workers affected by the removal of the CRO card have the opportunity to gain practical experience as they work towards their award.

In developing the qualifications, and in preparation for their launch, we have worked with employers and training providers from across the sector to ensure that our offering meets the needs of the industry now, and in the future.

According to Gillian Hepburn, National Business Development Manager at SQA, partnership working is key. She says: “Delivering SQA qualifications ensures you are working in partnership with a trusted, credible, awarding body to enhance the learner journey. By developing these new construction qualifications, SQA are ensuring that the skills required by the sector are met. By designing them in partnership, they are best able to meet the needs of employers and learners alike.”
