The Association of Brickwork Contractors (The ABC) is a not-for-profit national membership organisation formed by large brickwork contractors, to primarily promote and maintain the role of the bricklayer and brickwork contractor throughout the UK Construction Industry. More specifically now, The ABC seeks ways to improve standards for areas intrinsic to maintaining sustainability and growth in the brick and block sector. These areas include quality of work, employment and health & safety, with a particular focus on Training, Skills & Education. The ABC initially does this by providing members the opportunity to align on a common platform, enabling a collaborative drive on new initiatives in order for widespread, national improvements to be made to the sector. Full Member companies are all major Specialist Brickwork Contractors who carry out the most prestigious and complex brick and blockwork contracts for the UK construction industry. They employ and contract approx. 20% of UK bricklayers and offer full supply and labour packages to major main contractors from the Commercial, Housing and Infrastructure sectors. Projects include; Bluewater Shopping Centre, The Tate, Regeneration of Elephant & Castle, St Pancras Station and The Ascot Racecourse. Associate members are made up from trusted manufacturers and building merchants who supply the UK Brickwork Contractor. “Bricklaying intricacies and methods are adapting rapidly, with more Architects pushing design boundaries, and product innovations becoming prevalent throughout the supply chain, it has never been more of an exciting sector to work in. The need for us to collectively support it, with The ABC, is essential ” Geoff Irvine – Chairman
