Apple opens new 600-capacity music venue at Battersea Power Station
Apple Music Hall has been designed as an intimate performance venue while incorporating production technology more commonly associated with much larger concert spaces.
The design draws directly on the architecture of Battersea Power Station, with heritage brickwork, fluted arches and bronze balconies used throughout the interior. A large glazed wall also connects the venue visually with the wider Power Station concourse and the River Thames.
At the centre of the venue is a 38-foot-wide stage which can be adapted for traditional performances or more immersive layouts. The space also features a 48-speaker spatial sound system positioned around the audience.
Behind the performance space, two dedicated recording and mixing studios allow live shows to be captured and produced on site. The venue has also been designed to support multicamera production, with infrastructure for more than 16 cameras and a dedicated broadcast control room.
Performances staged at Apple Music Hall will be able to be recorded in Spatial Audio and broadcast to audiences outside London, combining the physical venue with digital production and livestreaming capabilities.
The opening forms part of Apple's expanding presence at Battersea Power Station, where new Apple Music Radio studios have also been created. London-based Apple Music Radio presenters will now broadcast from the site.
The project represents the latest addition to the regenerated Battersea Power Station estate, combining the building's historic industrial architecture with a new purpose-built entertainment and production space.
