Fronius UK on the Future of Solar Energy, Battery Storage and Smarter Buildings

As demand for smarter, more sustainable energy solutions continues to grow, solar technology and battery storage are playing an increasingly important role in the built environment.

We caught up with Daniel Kastner, Managing Director of Fronius UK, to discuss the latest industry developments, the future of renewable energy and what visitors can expect from Fronius at London Build and elementalLONDON 2026.

Who are you, and what does your company do?

Hi, I’m Daniel Kastner, Managing Director of Fronius UK. Fronius is an Austrian, family-owned technology company with more than 80 years of innovation and over 30 years of experience in manufacturing solutions for solar energy.

We develop ecosystems that help homes and businesses generate, store and intelligently use renewable energy, enabling greater energy independence and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We believe renewable energy should be accessible, efficient and play a central role in creating a more sustainable future.

.

What are you showcasing at elemental LONDON & London Build?

My team and I will be showcasing our complete solar energy portfolio for residential and commercial applications where visitors will be able to explore the Fronius GEN24 and Verto inverters, Reserva Pro battery storage solution and Wattpilot Flex EV charger.

Combined with clever energy management, these technologies demonstrate how solar generation, battery storage and electric vehicle charging, can be integrated into a single, scalable solution. Customers can begin with the technologies that best suit their needs today and seamlessly add further products over time, creating a future-ready energy ecosystem as their requirements evolve.

Visitors will also learn how our backup power solutions keep essential appliances running during outages, increasing energy independence and resilience.

Whether for existing homes, commercial buildings or new developments, our reliable solutions are designed to help users maximise their renewable energy use and cutting their monthly electricity bills for decades to come.

What industry problem does it solve?

The built environment is under increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions while managing rising energy costs and growing demand for electricity. At the same time, businesses, developers and homeowners are seeking greater energy security and less reliance on an increasingly strained grid.

Fronius solutions address these challenges by enabling users to generate, store and intelligently manage their own renewable energy. By maximising self-consumption of solar power and integrating battery storage and EV charging, our technology reduces operating costs, improves energy resilience and supports the transition to lower-carbon buildings. Ultimately, it gives people and businesses greater control over how they produce, use and optimise their energy.

Who would benefit most from your solution?

Anyone looking to gain greater control over their energy usage can benefit from a Fronius solution.

For businesses, developers and commercial property owners, our solutions provide opportunities to lower operational costs, improve sustainability credentials and future-proof energy infrastructure.

For homeowners, our systems help reduce electricity bills, increase self-consumption of solar energy and support the transition to electric mobility.

Ultimately, anyone seeking to reduce their reliance on the grid, improve energy security and lower their carbon footprint can benefit from an integrated Fronius energy solution.

What makes it stand out?

What sets Fronius apart is our combination of experience, innovation and long-term commitment to quality.

As a pioneer in the solar industry with more than 30 years of expertise, we develop high-performance energy solutions, with all products designed and engineered in Europe and the majority manufactured there.

Unlike standalone products, Fronius offers a fully integrated ecosystem that connects solar generation, battery storage, electric vehicle charging and energy management into a single intelligent solution. As energy security becomes increasingly important, choosing Fronius gives customers confidence that their data is stored and managed within Europe in accordance with strict European data protection standards.

Combined with our strong UK presence, dedicated technical support, extensive installer network and the financial stability of a long-established, family-owned business, this provides customers with confidence that Fronius will remain a trusted partner throughout the lifetime of their investment.

Why is elementalLONDON & London Build an important event for your company?

Elemental London offers important opportunities for us to connect directly with the people shaping the future of the built environment. With renewable energy playing an increasingly important role in residential and commercial developments, these events allow us to have valuable conversations with architects, developers, specifiers, contractors, installers and building owners about their sustainability goals, energy strategies and future projects.

We look forward to understanding the challenges and ambitions of both existing and potential customers and demonstrating how Fronius solutions can support their plans through intelligent solar generation, energy storage and EV charging. Beyond showcasing our technology, these events are about building relationships, sharing expertise and collaborating on the practical steps needed to create more sustainable, energy-independent buildings for the future.

Will you be launching any new products or running any live demonstrations at your stand?

Yes. We will be showcasing the latest additions to our energy portfolio, including the new Fronius Reserva Pro, a scalable battery storage solution with modules manufactured in Europe designed for larger residential and commercial applications, as well as our latest backup power technology, which provides a seamless transition to battery power for essential loads the moment a grid outage occurs.

What do you see as the most pressing challenge facing the industry today, and what needs to change to address it?

The combination of rising energy costs and increasing global uncertainty continues to present significant challenges for both households and businesses.

Energy users are looking for greater predictability, resilience and control over their costs, while governments and organisations are working towards ambitious decarbonisation targets.

To address these challenges, the industry needs to accelerate the adoption of intelligent renewable energy systems that combine generation, storage and smart energy management. By enabling people and businesses to produce and use more of their own renewable energy, we can reduce exposure to volatile energy markets, strengthen energy security and support the transition to a more sustainable future.

What’s your favourite thing about working in this industry?

Without a doubt, the people. Whether it’s my colleagues, the installers, or the end customers, the human connection is what drives me. There is no better feeling than hearing a success story at the end of the day—knowing a system is up and running and hearing that genuine surprise and excitement from a customer when they realise how much energy they're really saving with virtually no maintenance.

Is there a recent project or case study you would like to highlight?

One project we're particularly proud of is our involvement in the award-winning Howgate Close development in Nottinghamshire, one of the UK's most energy-efficient residential housing projects.

The development highlights how solar generation can support exceptionally high levels of energy efficiency while reducing reliance on external energy sources. By combining renewable energy technology with high-performance building design, the homes deliver comfortable, low-energy living environments with outstanding sustainability credentials.

In collaboration with the architect and developer, the ongoing monitoring of the homes provides valuable real-world data on energy use, self-sufficiency and system performance. The insights gained continue to support the development of future low-carbon housing projects and sustainable building practices.

As the construction industry continues to focus on net-zero targets and sustainable development, projects such as Howgate Close illustrate what can be achieved when innovative building design and renewable energy technologies are brought together to create future-ready communities.
