Mace Group have been selected to be the principal contractor on 'London's most sustainable office block' by developer Edge, in partnership with Goldman Sachs Asset Management and their funding partners, LPPI.

Located on St Thomas Street - near London’s vibrant South Bank, the flagship EDGE London Bridge scheme is aiming to become the most sustainable office tower in the Capital. This is just the latest project led by Mace in the London Bridge Quarter area, with the company having built the iconic Shard and Shard Place.

Designed by Pilbrow & Partners, when built, the tower will stand at 28 storeys tall and will feature over 260,000sq ft of state-of-the-art commercial office space, as well as a large shared green roof terrace and a new adjacent public park. It will be targeting both BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum certification.

The building has been designed to provide a a healthy environment for those who work inside, harnessing natural ventilation through underfloor air supply and maximising natural light through floor to ceiling windows.

EDGE London Bridge has a targeted regulated energy consumption of less than 23 kWh/sqm which aligns with the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge operational intensity targets for new-build offices.

Gareth Lewis, CEO for Construct, Mace, said:
“We are proud to have been appointed as main contractor for this pioneering project. With strong sustainability credentials, the ambition of this development goes hand in hand with our own vision and purpose.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to move the dial when it comes to delivering a truly sustainable building, and we are excited to be part of this journey. Mace has a strong track record of delivery in the London Bridge Quarter and we look forward to continuing to play our part in the transformation of this vibrant area.”

Andy Jones, Managing Director for Major Projects – Construction, Mace, said:
“We are honoured to work with such a visionary client to deliver what will be London’s most sustainable office tower. This builds on Mace’s previous experience of delivering pioneering Major Projects across London."

Fons van Dorst, Edge’s Executive Managing Director UK, said:
“EDGE London Bridge will be a flagship scheme for the city that can set a new bar for sustainability in London offices. At Edge, we are committed to driving down the embodied carbon of our developments, with the aim of hitting absolute zero carbon by 2050 – as set out in our Roadmap. Mace’s role as contractor will be pivotal in helping us to make construction of this scheme more efficient.”

Construction on the project will start early next year, with completion expected in 2026.
