MCS Group starts construction of retail park at former gasworks site

MCS Group has begun the construction of three new retail units in Hertfordshire after being awarded a '9m contract by Consolidated Property Group (CPG).

The Midlands-based construction company will deliver the units ' which will be occupied by B&Q, Aldi and Costa Coffee ' at a former gasworks site at Griffiths Way, St Albans.

MCS Group expects the 41-week project to reach practical completion in summer 2020.

The units will range from 2,200 sq ft for Costa Coffee, 19,000 sq ft for Aldi and 46,000 sq ft for the B&Q unit.

Alan Shadbolt, group commercial director at MCS Group, said: 'CPG is delivering a high-quality retail park on a site that has been in real need of redevelopment, bringing new jobs and investment to St Albans.

'We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract and are excited to be working alongside CPG and architects Fletcher Rae to create an excellent new retail destination surrounded by well-known stores and supermarkets.'

MCS Group has now also built and refurbished more than 300 car dealerships since its inception in 2003.
