Open Doors 2027: Helping the Next Generation Discover Careers in Construction
The construction industry needs to attract more than 41,000 new workers every year, making it more important than ever to give the next generation a chance to discover what a career in construction can offer.
Open Doors, Build UK’s industry-leading programme, is helping to do exactly that by giving young people and career changers the opportunity to experience construction workplaces first-hand.
Following a successful 2026 programme, which saw more than 6,500 visitors attend 240 events across the UK, Open Doors is returning in 2027 with a new, more flexible format. Events will take place throughout March 2027, making it easier for organisations across the industry to open their doors around their existing programmes of work.
Sites, offices, factories and training centres can all get involved, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the wide range of roles and career opportunities available across construction.
The impact of these experiences is already clear. In 2026, 81% of Open Doors visitors said they were more likely to consider a career in construction afterwards, demonstrating the value of giving people the opportunity to see the industry for themselves.
With event registration now open for #OpenDoors27, construction organisations are being encouraged to get involved by hosting their own events and helping inspire the next generation of talent.
