Who are you, and what does your company do?

The Proctor Group is a UK-based manufacturer of specialist products, with a focus on robust performing solutions for the building envelope. We work across new build, retrofit, offsite and modular construction, supporting architects, specifiers, contractors and manufacturers with products designed to help address requirements around airtightness, moisture management, fire performance and thermal efficiency.

With decades of experience in the construction industry, we combine product development with technical support, including services such as hygrothermal modelling, thermal bridging calculations and technical guidance to support the specification of our products.

What are you showcasing at London Build & elementalLONDON?

We’ll be showcasing a selection of our building envelope solutions, including our Wraptite® airtightness system, Proctor Air® breather membranes and Spacetherm® aerogel insulation.

We’ll also be highlighting how individual products can work together as part of a wider building envelope approach, rather than looking at products in isolation. Visitors will be able to speak to our team about applications, specification and some of the technical considerations involved in achieving robust building envelope performance.

What industry problem does it solve?

The building envelope has an important role to play in delivering buildings that are energy efficient, durable and resilient. However, achieving this in practice can be challenging, particularly where designers and contractors are balancing increasingly demanding requirements around energy performance, airtightness, moisture management, thermal bridging and fire safety.

Our products and technical services are designed to help address these challenges and provide practical solutions for different construction types and applications.

Our approach goes beyond simply supplying a product. We recognise that building envelope performance depends on how different elements of the construction work together. We pride ourselves on understanding the inter-relationships between materials and how they might influence the performance of the building.

Our technical team can support customers with product selection and application, as well as services such as u-values, condensation risk analysis, hygrothermal modelling and thermal bridging calculations. Why is London Build & elementalLONDON an important event for your company?

London Build provides a valuable opportunity to meet a broad cross-section of the construction industry in one place. It gives us the chance to speak directly with architects, specifiers, contractors, housebuilders and other industry professionals about the challenges they are facing on current and future projects.

It’s also an important opportunity to have conversations around the wider building envelope, rather than simply talking about individual products. Face-to-face discussions often give us a much better understanding of what the industry needs and where we can provide useful technical support.

What do you see as the most pressing challenge facing the industry today, and what needs to change to address it?

One of the biggest challenges is delivering buildings that are genuinely energy efficient and resilient while also meeting increasingly complex requirements around regulation, fire safety, moisture, airtightness and build quality.

We need to continue moving towards a more holistic approach to building design, where the performance of the building envelope is considered from the outset rather than individual requirements being addressed separately. Better collaboration between designers, manufacturers, contractors and other parts of the supply chain is essential.

There is also a need to ensure that products are not only correctly specified, but correctly installed. Clear technical information, appropriate training and greater understanding of how building systems interact will all have an important role to play.

Is there a recent project or case study you would like to highlight?

A project we’re particularly proud to highlight is Deptford Landings in London, a major residential development where the Proctor Group’s building envelope solutions were used as part of the project.

The development presented the kind of challenges that are increasingly common on large-scale urban projects, where energy efficiency, airtightness, moisture management and thermal performance all need to be considered alongside practical construction requirements.

Our Wraptite® airtightness membrane was used within the building envelope, helping to address the project’s airtightness requirements. The project is a good example of how building envelope products need to be considered as part of the wider construction build-up, rather than in isolation.
