The proposals to build affordable homes on Tube station car parks in Harrow

Further details have been published on proposals by Transport for London (TfL) and housing association Catalyst to build 540 affordable homes on the site of Rayners Lane, Stanmore and Cannons Park station car parks.
The homes will be offered on social rents or on shared ownership schemes.'
Developers say the shared ownership schemes will be aimed at those with household incomes of''30,000 to '90,000 who are not (yet) able to buy their own property.
Rayners Lane car park, which currently has 251 parking spaces, will be redeveloped into 140 homes. 100 parking spaces will be retained.
Stanmore station car park will be turned into a space for 280 homes. Of the 446 existing parking spaces, 300 will be retained.

The remaining homes will be built at Cannons Park station car park. The site currently has 162 spaces and this will be reduced to 60.
There will also be cycle hubs at all three sites.
TfL is hoping to start construction by 2021.
Director of commercial development at TfL Graeme Craig said: 'We have selected Catalyst as our partner to help us deliver around 500 new homes in Harrow with 100 per cent affordable housing.
"As well as providing much-needed new homes for local people, our plans would look to improve the public realm and cycling facilities, provide new retail space as well as include improved step-free access at Stanmore Tube station.

'We have started to engage with the local community and stakeholders as we develop our proposals for our sites in Stanmore, Canons Park and Rayners Lane and look forward to hearing their feedback. These sites offer us a fantastic opportunity to deliver the homes that the capital desperately need, while also generating significant ongoing revenue to reinvest into the transport network.'
Bob Blackman, MP for Brent and Harrow, has however expressed concerns over the proposed development.
He said last Thursday (July 25) in the House of Commons: "During questions to the Leader of the House, I raised the consultation that is under way across a number of areas in London on Transport for London building high-density, multi-storey housing on car parks attached to stations.

"That will dramatically reduce the number of car parking spaces available at the terminus of every single line in London and affect commuters right across the south-east who drive to a station, leave their car and use public transport to travel in.
"Equally, there is a concern that the properties that will be built will be rabbit hutches and will become the slums of the future, causing further problems."
A public consultation event on the proposals previously took place on July 16.
Developers are seeking feedback about any priorities or anything that should be considered in the development of the project.
