Design Management Trainee, Willmott Dixon Interiors
I joined the industry over two years ago, working in interior fit out for Willmott Dixon Interiors. I joined the industry as I love the fact that no two days are the same and I love physically seeing a project come together. Working in design management I have worked on an array of projects and as well as this am an active campaigner for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and have been an active member of the company EDI team since January 2020. I believe that the industry should focus on individuals who are the most eligible for a job, not just selecting those who need more representation, such as women. I therefore feel a strong inclination to push awareness of the industry in schools and universities as women are just as capable at becoming qualified in this industry as men are. The lack of awareness of the variety of roles available in the construction industry is shocking and with the ever-nearing trade shortage, we need to encourage as many as possible into the industry in a variety of roles. Alongside my role I am also studying a level 6 apprenticeship in BSc Architectural Technology and am a student member of the CIAT.
