Bekir Andrews CEnv, FIEMA is the Environmental Sustainability Director at Wates Group. With extensive international experience and deep practical expertise, Bekir specialises in translating strategic ambition into operational impact. At Wates Group, he wrote its environmental sustainability plan and is now leading on its delivery.

His core competencies include strategy deployment, non-financial reporting, business case development, policy analysis, board-level engagement, and stakeholder communications.

He has worked closely with financial institutions and ESG rating agencies, and has led the creation of leadership engagement programmes and training materials.

Bekir also brings hands-on experience in sustainable procurement, integrated management systems, auditing, energy and resource efficiency, renewable technologies, low-carbon materials and biodiversity.

His key achievements to date are:
- having Wates Group's near- and long-term science-based targets validated
- publishing Wates Group’s Environmental Sustainability Plan
- developing and securing a £90m sustainability linked loan with Lloyds, HSBC & AIB for Wates Group
- producing Wates' first TCFD disclosure. Wates went on to win the PwC Building Better Trust Award for Reporting
- developing the ESG indicators for a £375m revolving credit facility with Lloyds Bank for Balfour Beatty
- creating the first set of social value metrics for the Asian market with the Social Value Portal
- setting up an Energy Management Unit within Balfour Beatty
- delivering a 54.7% reduction/£m turnover in scope 1 & 2 emissions against our 2010 baseline
- undertaking the UK's first EST approved retrofit on construction machinery achieving Stage V emissions standard
- developing Balfour Beatty's latest sustainability strategy
- managing the environmental impacts of the G8 summit in Gleneagles
- being the first consultant to take a company through to BS 8555 in the UK
- rolling out BS 8555 across 30 sites within 3 years
- being the first auditor to audit TFL, LDA, LFB, and the MPA against the Flexible Framework
- bringing a new biomass pellet hopper to market
