Bernadette qualified as an architect in 1986 and then undertook an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration at Kings College London. Bernadette holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificates (for Civil and also Criminal). Following across the board experience working in private practice, for a major contractor and also a major retailer, in 1993 Bernadette set up Barker Consultants. Having developed an interest in construction law Bernadette trained as adjudicator and then an arbitrator. Bernadette is a Member of the Academy of Expert Witnesses and has a particular interest in fire matters, building defects, external walls and cladding.

Statement:

"Construction offers so many opportunities for women in construction at or levels., There are also so many routes into the industry whether you are a school leaver or fresh out of university. I cannot think of any reason why women cannot succeed in the construction industry."
