Camila Bernal

Head of Environment, Skanska

Camila is originally from Colombia where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Masters in Environmental Engineering.  She later completed a second Masters in Construction Engineering at the University of Cambridge on 2021.  Early in her career, Camila worked as an environmental consultant for the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority, followed by another two years as an EIA consultant in Ecuador. 

Since moving to England, Camila held a number of roles with Laing O’Rourke (LOR). In 2011 she was the Environmental Manager for the construction of Terminal 2 at London Heathrow Airport. Camila then moved to LOR’s Engineering Excellence Group, where she was responsible for incorporating environmental aspects into the innovation agenda. In 2015 she was appointed as the Environmental Lead for Thames Tideway Central, where she spent 4 years.  Following that, Camila was appointed Environmental Lead for Work Winning in LOR, supporting a diverse portfolio of opportunities for buildings and infrastructure sectors. 

In 2022, Camila joined Skanska as Head of Environment for the Infrastructure business. She is responsible for all Environmental Sustainability matters in infrastructure - covering rail, highways, energy and water sectors - including the delivery of the Net Zero strategy. 

Outside of work Camila was elected one of the 'Top 100 Colombians' for 2014, III Edition as part of an initiative sponsored by the Colombian Presidency for the recognition of exceptional talent and success of Colombians living overseas.  She is also an open water scuba diver and loves to spend time under the sea.
