Soon to celebrate over forty-five years continuous work in the Construction Industry, with thirty-five of those years spent in fire engineering

 Working within the rail sector on London Underground, Network Rail, Crossrail and High Speed 2, he has held the position of “Contractors Responsible Engineer” with experience working above and below ground forming a large part of this lengthy career, along with spells overseas and within the industrial, commercial and residential sectors.

 Continuous learning has always been a key driver and recent success in gaining an Honours Degree in Construction site fire safety is testament to an ongoing commitment to “it’s never too late to learn”

 Being an active member of industry leading focus groups and forums ensures that his knowledge is always fresh and relevant. Never one to stay quiet and accept the “status quo” Gary is always looking for new ways of working to improve fire safety of the built environment and take the risk out of construction work for all involved.

 Focusing on management controls and the implementation of compliant fire safety measures. A key goal is to provide fire safety leadership, best practice guidance, technical advice and training, knowledge coordination and the delivery of compliant fire safety measures across the project lifecycle.

 Links with London Fire Brigade and Government regulators provides an opportunity for access to the very latest fire safety information and insight into the direction that authorities are steering legislation and regulatory guidance. This ensures that Skanska are always leading the construction industry in matters of compliance and best practice.

 His specific function is to provide expertise on fire safety engineering to ensure that Skanska design, procure and deliver compliant solutions.

 Gary represents Skanska at Build UK leading on the Building Safety Act, he is also deputy chair of the CONIAC Fire Safety Group and supports RIBA in delivering training modules to members on the Building Safety Act Principal Designer Duties.
