Sustainability Lead at SOM London Sustainable Engineering Studio since December 2021; helping to form an in-house environmental design and analysis support team working on projects in various climates across the EMEA region from building to masterplan scale. Prior to joining SOM, Herman was Sustainability Lead on a number of projects and Head of the Research and Innovation branch at ChapmanBDSP. The climate-responsive consultancy work included collaborations with different architects as Foster+Partners, RSHP and Grafton Architects.

Herman has been a tutor at the Architectural Association Sustainable Environmental Design Masters programme for ten years and his main area of interest is the drive towards net zero while ensuring occupant and pedestrian wellbeing through climate-responsive solutions. This led to Herman being selected to author and deliver the RIBA Core CPD 2020 on Building Physics and Energy Efficient Strategies. Pursuing this aim, he has participated in various workshops and conferences including Smart Geometry, PLEA, NCEUB and EU RESTORE and being part of the CIBSE Simulation Group 2018 prize winning team.
