Johannes Schafelner, Mag. Arch, RIBA, ARB

Johannes has played a pivotal role in delivering a wide range of successful products, installations, and architectural projects at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). He served as Project Director for ZHA’s first project in New York — a luxury residential development on the High Line, completed in 2018.

Other major projects include the design for the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre and Roca Gallery London which were completed during his tenure as lead of the Zaha Hadid Design Cluster. More recently, Johannes has led the design and delivery of the Songshan Lake Performance Centre in Dongguan, set for completion this year, as well as several large-scale masterplans such as the Aljada Masterplan in Sharjah, UAE, and Chengdu Unicorn Island in China, which is nearing completion.

In 2021, Johannes was appointed as a director of the Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) and became part of its inaugural board, tasked with upholding the values and vision championed by Dame Zaha Hadid.

He is a frequent keynote speaker at international events and serves as a review panellist at some of the world’s leading design schools. He currently teaches at the Architectural Association (AA) in London.
