Matt Tallon is the Sustainability Director at FM Conway, a leading infrastructure services company operating across transportation, the built environment, and the public realm. He leads the company’s sustainability strategy, built around the core principles of People, Planet & Purpose, and works closely with clients including London’s local authorities, TfL, and National Highways to help them deliver on their sustainability ambitions.
Circular construction techniques and resource efficiency have been at the heart of FM Conway’s success for over 60 years, and under Matt’s leadership the company continues to pioneer new approaches to carbon reduction and net zero delivery. Building on his Chemical Engineering Master’s and INSEAD’s Business Sustainability Programme, Matt has driven the development of industry-first tools, from an asphalt carbon calculator covering more than 2,500 products across seven plants to a carbon estimating tool that helps design out emissions at the earliest stages of projects. His team delivers “as built” carbon reporting by integrating FM Conway’s procurement system with its carbon database, ensuring both accuracy and transparency. Matt has also championed low-carbon projects, such as Westminster’s Elmfield Way, which achieved a UK record of 92% recycled content, and the development of the zero-emission construction site model in central London.
He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Paviors and Freeman of the City of London, underlining his wider commitment to the built environment and the future of the industry. Outside of work, Matt is a keen triathlete, open-water swimmer, cyclist, and occasional golfer.
