Neil Smith
Neil is a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) and a registered access consultant on the National Register of Access Consultants. With over 25 years of experience, he is a leading authority on inclusive design. Formerly Inclusive Design Lead for High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd, the UK’s largest infrastructure project, Neil also served as a Design Advocate for the Mayor of London for seven years, supporting the Good Growth by Design programme. He currently sits on the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Design and Placemaking Inclusivity Sounding Board. Neil has contributed to national and international standards, including HS2’s Inclusive Design Standards, London Legacy Development Corporation’s standards, and Riyadh Metro’s Accessibility Standards. He is Deputy Chair of the British Standards Committee for BS8300 Design of an accessible and inclusive built environment and was part of the drafting panel for its current version. His expertise spans policy, standards development, and major infrastructure projects.
