Following a 30-year career with London Fire Brigade in a variety of roles covering operations, technical services, training policy, operational policy and secondments to the civil service dealing with threat of terrorism and national firefighter selection, in 2015 I retired. I then focussed on Health and Safety in the education sector becoming Head of H&S and reconnected with the built environment looking at estates, facilities management, and Fire Safety management. Following the Grenfell Tower Tragedy I became engaged in the issues it raised and saw the opportunity to work in Housing to tackle the areas of concernoutlined in the Hackitt report. Since 2019 I have been working with customer safety colleagues, fire engineering specialists, enforcement agencies and partners as well as an array of contractors and consultants to deliver those outcomes and continue to be highly motivated to continue and improve all aspects of Building Safety.
