Seb joined Architype in 2021 and is an expert in sustainable design and policy,'contributing to industry initiatives to decarbonise construction.'As a previous coordinator of the Embodied Carbon group within the Architects Climate Action Network, he co-authored the Carbon Footprint of Construction report which campaigned to regulate embodied carbon.
At Architype, Seb is involved in research initiatives on building performance evaluation, embodied carbon and structural timber.'He works with estates, including the City of Edinburgh Council, on EnerPHit-informed retrofit plans to decarbonise their portfolio of existing buildings, employing LCA and PHPP tools to optimise whole life carbon retrofits.
Seb plays a central role in Architype's timber and fire working group, with extensive knowledge about the current challenges and opportunities that the industry faces and has an extensive understanding of embodied carbon design, assessment, and regulation.
Seb sits on various industry groups including the Timber Development UK's sustainability committee and carbon sub-committee and has peer-reviewed publications including the TDUK paper on assessing the carbon-related impacts and benefits of timber in construction.
He is a qualified architect and Certified Passivhaus Designer who studied at the University of Cambridge, the Centre for Alternative Technology, and Westminster.
