Dr. Ziad Banyamin is a Smart Buildings Associate Director with over 15 years of experience in the design, integration, and delivery of intelligent building systems across sectors including hospitality, healthcare, commercial offices, and mixed-use developments. His work spans the full lifecycle of smart building projects, from early-stage strategy and concept design through to technical specification, system integration, and implementation oversight.
Ziad has led the development of smart building strategies and detailed technical specifications for a wide range of systems, including building management systems (BMS), lighting control, access control, vertical transport, robotics, and IoT-based sensory networks. He has architected middleware platforms and data flow models that enable real-time interoperability between diverse systems, leveraging API-based services, ETL pipelines, and semantic data frameworks.
His expertise includes the development of federated ontologies and operational data models aligned with industry standards such as Brick Schema, Project Haystack, RealEstateCore, and HL7 FHIR. Ziad has also played a key role in defining integration scopes, authoring compliance frameworks, and leading technical verification processes, including RFI development, vendor engagement, and lab-based performance testing.
Ziad holds a B.Eng in Electronics Engineering, an MSc in Telecommunications Network Planning, and an industrial PhD in Composite Physics, where he developed a novel photodiode technology for cost-effective solar energy applications. His work is defined by a rigorous technical approach and a commitment to delivering future-ready, data-driven environments.
